How long had he been in bed? To Shinta, it felt as if he had been bedridden for at least a week when in reality it had only been about three days. Three whole days of missing school, the sunshine and most of all Kentaro. ‘What’s Ken doing now?’ He often wondered to himself as he was forced to endure life as a patient. If Shinta knew Ken like he knew he did the guy was likely a total mess, he was always a mess when left alone for too long. It was very likely the past three days was equally as hard on him as it was on Shinta. As time passed and their friendship went on it became more and more obvious that they were each other escape from their own realities. Whatever drama was going on in their lives didn’t seem to matter as much when they were with each other. At least that was how it was for Shinta since only Ken treated him like a person rather than a patient. Ya, the past three days had been rough with his only company being nurses and of course his doctors. But what else did he expect when his health took such a dramatic turn? A heart attack was no joke no matter how minor it was and now he was stuck, held prisoner by his own crappy heart condition until it got better. He was still weak even now three days after the attack, and it was because he was weak that he couldn’t bring himself to text Ken back. He left all his messages unread and let all his calls go to voicemail because he just couldn’t bring himself to face him.
After all, just like Kentaro himself Shinta had secrets too, he was planning to take the truth about his how poor his health was to his grave, and if that meant ignoring Ken for a few days then so be it. He simply couldn’t bare the thought of Ken finding out the truth. He couldn’t risk what they had by going and telling him he was as good as dead already. Then again maybe it would be better if he did just come out and tell him. Save Ken the heartache of getting attached to someone like him only from him to die. His thoughts were always so depressing when he was bored with nothing to do, guess that was his cue to start thinking about something other than his relationship with Ken. So he went on to do other things to pass the day away, things like sleeping in well past noon and playing whatever game was left in his handheld. It wasn't until he heard the school bell ringing in the distance did he realize it was after three in the afternoon. It wasn’t long after that did the school kids start to walk by the hospital, leaving Shinta longing to be one of them as he stared at them from his window. It was just his luck that the hospital just happened to be close to his high school meaning most everyone he knew walked by him every day including Kentaro. Knowing that his friend was going to eventually pass the hospital by had Shinta glued to his window waiting to catch a glimpse before sliding closed his curtains before Ken could look up.
Like expected Ken did take the route by the hospital home today and like always Shinta was left with a heavy feeling in his chest the moment he saw him. He had to sigh at that as he took hold of his window curtains because knowing how long it took his heart to recover it would likely be another day or two before he could see Kentaro again. He pulled his curtains about halfway closed before he noticed something off about Ken’s walking. Instead of heading past the hospital's gates he walked through them towards the hospital's entrance…. Towards him! “What?!” Shinta blurted out as he gripped and pulled on the window curtains. He stared at Ken and blinked a couple of hundred times before it honestly, clicked that he was coming to see him. Mortified Shinta began to panic over the little things like the fact he was still in his pajamas, not to mention he was pale as a sheet and had two sets of IV’s in his arm. “Crappp!” Shinta groaned as he struggled to think up an excuse why he hadn't responded to Ken in days. He really didn’t have that much time to think about things because before he knew it Kentaro was there knocking on his door.
“Come In.” Was really the only thing he could say, it wasn’t like Ken would take get lost as an answer after coming all the way to see him. So Shinta braced himself and tried to make himself look as lively as he could despite only just getting over a medical set back. Though looking lively in front of Ken was always an easy thing to do considering all the guy needed to do was walk into his room to make Shinta smile. “Hey, how was school, do you miss me yet?” Had to flash a cocky side grin at that because ya he must have if he was coming to see him here of all places. “Well don’t just stand there come sit, I’m dying to hear about your day,” Shinta said motioning to the chair beside his bed as he struggled to sit up and greet Ken.
